Hoekstra Tackles Sewers as Part of Goal to Try 100 jobs

July 30, 2009

It wasn't quite Mike Rowe of "Dirty Jobs" fame, but U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra donned a hard hat and reflective vest to work alongside a crew in Detroit this week to fulfill his campaign promise to work 100 jobs across the state as part of his campaign for governor.

Expecting to be in the trenches, Hoekstra instead ended up pushing buttons as a crew from Inland Waters Pollution Control Inc. of Detroit lined an old underground sewer with fiberglass.

Asked by Political Insider about working three jobs at once (congressman, candidate for governor and work-crew trainee), Hoekstra said, "I guess taxpayers are getting their money's worth."
