I hold the sanctity of life with the highest regard and believe that unborn children at any stage of development are endowed with a fundamental right to life.
I am opposed to the practice of abortion, and during my time in Congress I have consistently supported legislative initiatives to protect the lives of unborn children.
I supported the ban on partial-birth abortion, voted to criminalize the harming of unborn children when another crime is committed, voted to ban taxpayer aid to foreign groups that promote abortion as a means of family planning and many other efforts to stop abortion.
I have continuously advocated for bills that promote adoption as an alternative to abortion and to expand tax benefits to families who adopt.
Voting Record and Initiatives
Right to Life Act - Declares that the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution is vested in each human being beginning at the moment of fertilization.
Partial-Birth Abortion – Voted to end the practice of partial-birth abortions.
Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act – Prohibit transporting a minor child across a state line to obtain an abortion. It makes an exception for an abortion necessary to save the life of the minor.
Parental Notification and Intervention Act – Prohibits the performance of an abortion on a minor unless prior written notification is provided to the parents informing them that an abortion has been requested. Allows for exceptions unless there is clear and convincing evidence of physical abuse of the minor by the parent.
Adoption Tax Relief Guarantee Act – Makes the expanded adoption tax credit permanent.
Mexico City Policy – Prohibits federal funding from going overseas to family planning efforts that includes abortion.
